Tonight’s gala holds a deeply personal meaning for me.
As a survivor of intimate partner violence and someone whose
journey to safety was made possible in part by Shelter Movers,
I know firsthand that leaving an abusive situation takes more than
courage. It takes a community willing to stand beside you when
you need it most.
Shelter Movers represents hope, dignity and the possibility of
beginning again. Being here tonight as your keynote speaker is
both an honour and a full-circle moment in my journey. I stand
before you not only as a survivor, but as a woman who has
reclaimed her voice and is committed to ensuring that others are
not left to navigate their darkest moments alone.
Thank you for believing in the power of safety, compassion and
collective action. Your generosity helps turn fear into possibility
and gives survivors the chance to build lives rooted in freedom,
healing and hope. Together, we are not simply helping people
leave violence behind; we are helping them reclaim the future
they deserve.
